Younique: Mineral Touch Foundation

It’s the magic foundation we constantly see on Facebook. Video after video of flawlessly covered tattoos and skin. Find yourself with a drawn on black cross on one cheek? No problem, this foundation will cover it.

The Younique Mineral Touch Foundation, is a liquid foundation which promises to give you a flawless complexion. With high claims online and so many videos showing how amazing the coverage is, curiosity got the better of me and I just had to try it.

Unfortunately Younique is not available in a store, you have to find a representative to order the product in for you; or order through their personal online shop. I was really lucky to get into contact with a lovely girl on Instagram (@heyaitsnat) who happened to be a Younique representative. What I loved about Natasha was that she was a really laid back sales lady, she helped me choose the shade I needed and didn’t pressurise me into buying the primer or brush, something that I have seen happen online. I felt really confident that Natasha could help me and I even ended up purchasing the Mood Fibre Mascara, a product I’ve always wanted to try. As I have really pale skin, I opted for the palest shade ‘Scarlet’ and in no time at all it arrived at my house.

This foundation is dispensed via a pipette, at first I thought this would be inconvenient but it actually made it really easy to dispense the correct amount of product. Make sure you shake the product before opening and gently squeeze the top of the pipette to fill it. Then gently unscrew and dispense. I find that 2 drops on the back of my hand is perfect for full coverage of my entire face. I like to control where I dot the product from there, but if you have a really dense foundation brush you can dispense it directly to the brush. Younique also sell a brush to go with the foundation, but I found my Sigma Flat Kabuki F80 Brush works really well.

The foundation itself is very liquidy and possesses quite a nice scent. I wouldn’t go as far as to say it’s perfumed, but it definitely doesn’t smell chemically. Due to it’s really liquid nature I recommend using a really dense brush or a Beauty Blender to buff and blend the product into your skin. I personally find I get the best converage with a brush, but play around to find the best technique for you.

As you can see from the photo above, the foundation is really good at minimising redness and it evens skin tone. It applies really smoothly and feels silky and soft on the skin. Though it dries to a soft, powdery finish; I highly recommend using a primer with this product especially if you have oily skin. I’ve personally found Benefit’s The POREfessional Matte Rescue Gel to be the best as it makes my makeup last so much longer. I feel the foundation covers most of my blemishes, the larger ones are still visible but as they are literally sticking out of my face it would be near impossible for them not to be! In general I’m most impressed with how it evens my skin tone and gives such a high coverage – without feeling cakey. It’s actually so lightweight I forget I have it on! It’s also such a good match for my skin tone, Natasha was spot on with her advice.

Final look after applying the rest of my makeup

After applying the rest of my makeup I have a whole new appreciation for the foundation. As it’s so high coverage, on it’s own my face feels a little flat. But once I add a little contour and blush I feel amazing. I wouldn’t personally go as far to say it’s ‘real life photoshop’ as I don’t believe such a claim can ever be achieved. But if I were to ever achieve that look, this is the closest I think I’ll ever get. My skin has genuinely never looked better!

In terms of durability, it lasts around 10 hours before needing a touch up when wearing it with a primer. Sometimes I add a little powder to mattify it further, especially on a hot day.

Overall I’m so happy I invested in this foundation. It’s price tag of £30 and finding a representative might put you off, but I think it’s definitely worth it. If like me you’re curious or simply want a lightweight feeling foundation with high coverage, this could be the foundation for you. If you’ve tried the Younique Mineral Touch Foundation I’d love to know your thoughts in the comments below.

So I have the Younique foundation and I didn’t find it any better than my other foundations. So for the difference in price (about $20 more Canadian), I am sticking with my original MAC foundation.

I do love your reviews! Thanks for the great articles.

That’s ok, I actually don’t have any high end foundations to compare it to. All of mine are drugstore so I feel like it will be much better than what I already have. I will definitely check out MAC though as I do love the brand, just never invested in a foundation!
