The ‘Boyfriend Does My Makeup’ Tag

Last week I sat my boyfriend down and asked him some makeup questions, forming the ‘Boyfriend Explains What Makeup Is Tag’. We had such a laugh hearing is answers we then decided he should have a go at applying my makeup.

I gave him a wide selection of products, my entire brush collection and I made sure I couldn’t see myself in the mirror. The rest was up to him.

Primer: After picking up every product and thinking a tube of lip gloss was a primer, Sam eventually chose the Makeup Revolution Aqua Priming Base Spray as it clearly said prime on it. He then doused my face in the primer, a little went in my eye and I was left with a very wet face. He then took a big fluffy face brush and dried my face. I was then ready for foundation.

Foundation: Sam chose the Younique Mineral Touch Foundation and was a little perplexed by the dropper. He squirted a few drops on the back of my hand and applied the product directly to a flat foundation brush, taking time to really rub it into my skin. He smeared most of it over my hand though!

Eye Primer: Sam then found the MUA Luxe Bright & Lighten Eye Primer and panicked because he hadn’t primed my eyelids. He swiftly applied a lot of product all over my lid and under my eyes.

Concealer: Sam then decided that my spots needed to be covered up and applied a generous amount of the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer to my blemishes. He commented that he’d applied too much and it looked like I had a skin condition.

Contour & Highlight: Because this product so clearly says highlight, Sam picked up the Bourjois Délice de Poudre Bronzing Powder & Highlighter to contour and highlight my face. He said I now looked like I was from Norway but he’d applied too much bronzer. Because my highlight wasn’t strong enough, and he was dying to use this product, Sam then applied the MUA Undress Your Skin Liquid Glow Oyster to the high points of my cheeks. I’m pretty sure he squeezed out a quarter of the tube!

Blush: Even my boyfriend was attracted to the Milani Romantic Rose Blush in Romantic Rose. Though as soon as he applied it, he swiftly said oops. At this point I was fully expecting to look like a clown. He then tried to open a loose powder pot; upside down. This was swiftly confiscated!

Eyeshadow: With my face makeup done it was time to make my eyes pop. Sam chose the Makeup Revolution Flawless Palette as there are so many colours to choose from. Taking a fluffy eyeshadow brush, he applied the shade Gold Digger all over my lid. Feeling happy with the result and perhaps a bit brave, he then took a lip brush and applied Cafe Noir into the outer crease. He immediately regretted this decision and I couldn’t help but laugh at his reaction.

Eyeliner and Mascara: In possibly one of the scariest experiences of my life, Sam applied eyeliner to my lash line. He used my favourite pencil eyeliner, the Cynthia Rowley Pencil Eyeliner in Black, and to his credit was very gentle. Though he did comment I looked a little like an ugly stepsister. He then used the Revlon Dramatic Definition Mascara on my lashes which ended up everywhere because I kept flinching and the wand kept going into my eye.

Brows: Sam was a little apprehensive of Benefit’s 3D Browtones and burst out laughing as soon as he applied it. It was safe to say I could tell it wasn’t going well!

Lips: To keep it easy, Sam used the Nyx Butter Gloss in Angel Food Cake and I was impressed how he didn’t get it over my face. Major boyfriend points there!

Before revealing his hard work I asked Sam to comment on what he’s done. His response? “I’m so sorry!”

It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. The contour is very strong and goes very high up my face. The highlight is very strong too! I think with some blending the eyeshadow could be passable but the mascara went everywhere! Overall I’m actually a little impressed and we had a lot of fun. I could not leave the house like this but he did a good job considering he had no idea what to do. I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so much in my life, perhaps if I’m very good he’ll let me put some on him!

If anyone wants to do this tag, please do! Make sure you send me a link because I love reading other people’s tags. I’d also love to know how you thought Sam did with this makeup challenge.

Haha it was ok, I had to confiscate the loose powder though. I couldn’t bare that going everywhere! It was a lot of fun though and it was just pure laughter for half an hour. I also only put out stuff that wasn’t expensive, being selective with what he can use is key!

hahah, hilarious! reading your story I was expecting much, much worse. Apart from the mascara he didn’t do a bad job! I was however cringing at the squeezing out 1/4 tube and such, I am now hesitating to try this, makeup is too precious! haha 😉
