Exquisite, beautiful and expensive. Those were the 3 words I thought the first time I saw these eyeshadow palettes. Not to mention a little familiar. With each shade merging into the other, each wave of shimmer delicately spilling over in a silky ombré effect; these eyeshadow palettes are insta ready and definitely look like an essential for anyone’s makeup collection.
So what would you say if I told you these were MUA dupes for these Hourglass palettes and are only £6 each? The highstreet has done it again! Or has it? Let’s move onto the swatches.
Enchanted is my favourite out of the 2 palettes. Each delicate, pink shade reminds me of the Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette and frankly looks more stunning. The 2 darkest shades are quite pigmented but the lighter shades required a little more work to show up on my pale skin. Nevertheless the texture is as promised, beautifully silky and each shade blends easily.
I wish I could say the same about Enrapture. I really wanted to like this palette, aesthetically this was my favourite out of the 2. I really like how the different shades merge together like smoke, I could not wait to create some darker, smoky looks! But unfortunately the colour payoff is far too much work than it’s worth. Each swatch required a lot of layering and after painstakingly applying then reapplying the darker shades, the chalkiness was off the scale. The shimmer was really inconsistent between shades and though the lighter colours are pretty, the dark shades completely let it down. I’m sorry MUA but this palette just doesn’t cut it, if you want a good palette to create a smoky eye other highstreet brands do it far better. I would definitely avoid this palette!
Overall these palettes had so much potential. I feel like 2016 is the year of the dupe, where highstreet brands are pulling out the stops to create amazing high quality products to make us swoon. In a lot of cases they are getting it 100% right, but these palettes falled short of my expectations.
If you want to try one of these palettes yourself I can only really recommend the Enchanted palette. The lighter shades might take some work, but the formula is soft and they will blend really nicely. In this case, and I really hate to say it, spend a little more and opt for the Hourglass palettes.
Have you tried these palettes or have had your eye on them? I’d love to know your thoughts in the comments below!
