I Heart Makeup: Molten Chocolate Lipsticks

I was browsing the makeup stands in Superdrug after their previous 3 for 2 promotion and could not quite resist the I Heart Makeup Molten Chocolate Lipsticks. With their appealing glossy, boxed packaging complete with a melted chocolate effect and the promise of a chocolate scent, I just had to have them. I picked up 3 shades: Salted Caramel, Fondue and Naked Chocolate and excitedly took them home to try on.

The packaging itself is a squeezey tube which you apply just like a lip gloss from a slightly padded applicator. I was worried this would make it slightly difficult when lining the lips, especially with the shade Fondue, but the thick formula means the lipstick doesn’t go all over your face. In fact I found it really easy to precisely line the product and slightly over-lining was a breeze. The only negative is that when squeezing the product, I feel like there’s a lot of air in the tube as you do have to give it a good squeeze before any lipstick actually comes out. This makes me think that despite the long tube size, it’s not filled. This makes it a little difficult to get out the right amount of product as if you squeeze just a little too hard, a lot comes out. Despite this, it still only takes minutes to have beautifully coloured lips.

When swatching I was really impressed with the pigmentation of the products, each colour applied flawlessy and wasn’t patchy. Fondue is a gorgeous chocolatey brown and when I wear it, I feel like I’ve literally smothed my mouth in chocolate. It looks utterly delicious and it’s definitely the shade I reach for the most at the moment. Naked Chocolate is a really pretty, classic dusty pink which will look gorgeous on anybody. It’s a lovely, more natural shade and I love to wear this when my makeup is a little more natural. Unfortunately I’m not so keen on Salted Caramel and I think I’ll be giving it away to a friend. Despite it’s more nude coloured packaging, the shade is quite a bright pink which is definitely more suited for the summer. If there’d been a tester in store I definitely wouldn’t have picked it up! The promised chocolate scent is also a bit meh. It’s very understated and barely noticeable, I don’t really see the point of adding the fragrance if you can’t really smell it. Especially as the box advertises it.

Overall for £3 I do like these lipsticks, the added vitamin E really helps to keep your lips soft. Although they don’t dry completely matte, they are long lasting and just look so nourishing yet semi-matte on the lips. This is a great formula for those who love a matte look but need a gentle product! I would however really reccommend seeing if you can swatch in store as the shades are not quite what they look like on the packaging.

Have you tried these lipsticks? I’d love to know your thoughts in the comments below!
