Colourpop X Kathleen Lights Aquarius Review

When I saw that Kathleen Lights, one of my favourite Youtubers ever, had released a special Aquarius lipstick bundle for her birthday – I knew I had to get in on the action. For those of you out of the loop, Kathleen has released a number of collabs with my favourite American makeup company Colourpop. One product in particular is the infamous Aquarius Lippie Stix with it’s perfectly pinky nude pigment and creamy formula. It is definitely an everyday staple for me and if you’re yet to try it, I definitely recommend popping it into your basket if you ever find yourself on the Colourpop website! That being said, sometimes I want to wear a liquid lipstick or a more long lasting formula and this bundle had the answer. Containing my favourite shade but in a variety of different formulas, I feel like this set will cater for everyone’s lipstick preferences. For $15, saving $3, you receive Aquarius in an Ultra Glossy Lip, Ultra Matte Lip and Ultra Satin Lip all boxed up in beautiful packaging. If you have a friend who loves a good nude, I think this would make such a gorgeous gift or of course a cheeky little treat for yourself. Let’s get on to the swatches!

As you can see the shade changes slightly depending on the formula and I feel like each is so beautiful. The biggest difference is the Ultra Matte Lip which is a little on the mauvey side, so much so that Kathleen named this product Aquarius 2 as it’s different. I really would have liked this in the pinky Aquarius shade but I still enjoy the colour and it’s nice to have a subtly different option.

The formula for each product is really lovely and each is so pigmented. The Ultra Glossy Lip has a tonne of shine and it’s not sticky at all. Like most glosses, this isn’t particularly long lasting. But I love to put in on for a really simple look when I don’t want to wear a full lipstick but also don’t want to have bare lips. Plus lip gloss is so easy to reapply and won’t mess up your look as it wears away – I feel we definitely don’t give lip gloss enough credit! The Ultra Satin Lip is somewhere in-between a creamy lipstick and matte lip – think somewhere on the lines of the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams. It feels so soft and comfortable on the lips and has the most intense pigmented colour. I love how it doesn’t feel drying and looks super pretty. However it doesn’t dry down and you will need to reapply after food and drink as well as half way through the day. I love wearing this when my lips feel particularly dry, or when I want to wear something comfortable yet want high pigment. Last but not least is the Ultra Matte Lip which lasts all day everrrryday. It’s absolutely guaranteed to keep up with you without compromising on the finish. I find that after about 8 hours + wear, it does start to crumble on the inner corners which to be honest is pretty impressive considering the price. It lasts through all your meals and the matte look just looks so good as it definitely plumps up your lips. The only problem with matte liquid lipsticks is they do dry out your lips so I recommend investing in a good scrub and lip balm to make sure you’re really looking after them.

Overall I really recommend this set as the quality is so good and I think the shades are perfect for Spring and Summer, particularly with a peachy eye and blush. If you want to try these out, the set is still available on the Colourpop website here and you can also purchase each product individually if you are only interested in one particular finish.

What’s your favourite Colourpop formula?
