ELF Beauty Shield Moisturiser Review

Meet my brand new favourite beauty product of 2017. No this isn’t me being over dramatic and no I’m in no way being paid to say this. But if you’re looking for a lightweight, SPF moisturiser which will also make your skin look fabulous – look no further. I’ve been on the hunt for a new moisturiser for a while now and luckily E.L.F was there to help by sending me their Beauty Shield SPF 50 Skin Shielding Moisturiser to try. Offering a lightweight yet hydrating and luminous finish with a universal tint, I was intrigued as to how this would fair with my skincare routine and whether it would sit nicely underneath makeup. Ever since I opened it, I have been literally obsessed and I almost cannot imagine beginning my makeup routine without it.

Let’s talk packaging first, is it truly Instagram worthy? The packaging is just really lovely. The pearlescent finish and chrome lid gives the moisturiser a more high-end feel which really impressed me. It looks like a really nice product, one which will sit nicely on your dressing table. When I purchase my skincare and makeup products, I like to feel like I’m buying something nice and not necessarily cheap and this moisturiser definitely ticks that box. Despite being plastic it has a nice, heavy feel to it and the pump action is a massive plus.

Now companies can spend as much money as they want on nice, pretty packaging. But it’s all about the product inside. Once pumped out on the skin, it has quite a strong sunscreen scent to it which sort of reminds me of jaffa cakes. It’s not at all unpleasant and the scent dissipates once settled into the skin. I really like the fact it has such a high SPF and that it protects your skin against everyday environmental aggressors due to it containing antioxidants. Anything that protects my skin daily is always a hit for me. However what really struck me was the sheer glow this gave my skin. Once blended, it gives your skin a gorgeous pearlescent finish and I have had so many compliments when wearing it. It also sits beautifully under makeup for that glow within look however if you do have oily skin, I do recommend wearing some powder just to set it.

This product has only 2 drawbacks:

  • If using as a primer, it will not increase the longevity of your makeup and I actually find it makes my foundation crease and slip away much faster. However setting with powder seems to help and wearing it alone with a little powder also looks fantastic.
  • It only comes in one shade which is supposed to be universal. Though this would be nice as a brightening primer for people with colour underneath foundation, this would definitely be too light as a stand alone moisturiser as the tint is just so light. I normally have to find the palest shade of foundation and even then I can struggle to find a true, pale match and this moisturiser works just fine for my skin tone. A couple more tint options would be really lovely especially as the product is so good, it would be nice if everyone could wear it.

Overall I am so in love with this product and I’ll definitely be purchasing this in the future. For £14.50 you get 50ml which I think is really good value for money, especially as it’s SPF 50.

Have you tried this product? I’d love to know your thoughts!
